McKinney, Texas — The Texas legislature passed House Bill 3 (HB 3) during the 88th Regular Legislative Session which requires a minimum of one armed security officer during school hours at District campuses.

Beginning September 5, the 91͵ÅÄ multi-layered security model, as approved by the 91͵ÅÄ School Board on August 14, 2023, will be in place. Every school in 91͵ÅÄ will have an armed guard on campus. To review our initial communication about 91͵ÅÄ’s action steps towards accomplishing House Bill 3 requirements, please look here.

The purpose of the armed guard is to monitor for exterior threats. Their daily duties will include actions such as exterior door checks, monitoring the exterior during recess periods, and increased presence at the start and end of school. The armed guards will be easily identifiable as they will be in uniform. Armed guards are not involved in student discipline issues; they are there primarily for the safety of the campus.

91͵ÅÄ continues to make the safety and security of our students and staff its first priority.
